:::The Nobel Peace Price for 2007  
     
 

The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2007 is to be shared, in two equal parts, between the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Albert Arnold (Al) Gore Jr. for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.

Prof. Mohan Munasinghe (a founder member and emeritus president of SLEMA) is one of the three Vice-Chairs of the IPCC. SLEMA wishes to congratulate Prof. Munasinghe in view of this enormous recognition to IPCC which he has been part of contributing to its activities for many years.

Activities recently concluded :
 
Training Course on Economical Operation of Boilers in Industry 2008
  The six-day weekend course was completed successfully on 21st June 2008 with the participation of 26 technicians.
     
::: Members' Evening 2008
  The members evening was held at Sea View Hotel, Colombo 03 on 23rd June 2008. The event started off with a presentation by Past President, Mr. Shavindranath Fernando on "Facts, Experiences and Status of Upper Kotmale
Hydro Power Project", there was a good response from members despite the compelling short notice, and the presentation generated keen interest leading to numerous questions from Mr Shavi Fernando which continued to the fellowship session. A field visit to the Upper Kothmale Hydro Power Project site would be arranged in the near future.

::: Felicitation for Prof. Mohan Munasinghe

 

2007 Nobel Peace Price was shared by Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) and Al Gore. SLEMA held a felicitation for Prof.Mohan Munasinghe, in view of his involvement with IPCC, as a Vice Chairman. 

The event was held at Cats Eye Ballroom, Ceylon Continental Hotel, Colombo on 28 February 2008. Chief Guest, Hon. Minister John Seneviratne, Guests of  Honour, Hon. Minister Champaka Ranawaka, Hon. Minister A.H.M. Fawzie, Prof. Mohan Munasinghe along with energy sector professionals participated the event.
